What on earth is a Eurasian Curlew? And what about an Antbear? Join us at De Hoop Nature Reserve this July for our Winter School Holidays programme and other exciting memories to be made.

This July, the best way to enjoy De Hoop is with our Winter School Holiday programme for young families. Starting on June 27 at 8am and ending only on July 19 at 10am, this programme has a feast of wonderfully different activities for the kids to get stuck into during their long holiday. Spend the day in our peaceful reserve to enjoy a glass of wine and a hot meal in between guided bird watching, mountain bike trails, quad biking, historical walks and magical tours of the reserve. The more competitive guests can even enjoy a game or two of tennis!

While you enjoy a glass of wine in the reserve, for only R50 the kids can revel in a 2 hour guided exploration of all those weird “creepy crawlies” found under the rocks at De Hoop with an experienced field guide. Or they could join an hour long treasure hunt across De Hoop’s Opstal and Vlei areas, where riddles about the reserve’s animals will need to be solved in order to find clues that will lead to their very own treasures! For those parents wanting a bit of a quieter dinner, your kids will love to join an interactive night walk with our experienced guides, venturing to discover De Hoop’s creatures of the night. If the weather doesn’t hold up for your entire stay, our De Hoop Mini Chefs is where they’ll learn how to create their own delicious pizzas and mouth-watering cupcakes to warm those little tummies, or our Creative Nature workshop will teach them how great their clay modelling and drawing skills could be.

But the best memories are made when you least expect it. So don’t miss out on those hilarious moments of your kids’ unparalleled curiosity, and have an adventure on the Family Marine Walk. One of our fantastic guides will take you into the wild, along the rocky shores and pools, discovering the area’s unique seashells, subtle starfish and visiting whales. Maybe you’ll even see a leatherback turtle or an elephant seal! The adventure is well worth climbing rocky outcrops and sandy dunes for, and to catch your breath a delicious family picnic can be ordered to enjoy during breakfast and lunch. Then, end off your day with roasted marshmallow smores and wild tales told around a campfire, lying under the stars and an African night sky.

The magic of De Hoop isn’t experienced in a single sitting… and so we’ve made room for those who want to extend their stays or day trips out. Our Winter Special for a Village Unit (sleeps 4) is at a ridiculous R995,00 per night! The offer ends on July 31, so be sure to take advantage of our mad special as soon as possible! We don’t want you to miss out.
