Outdoor Painting @ De Hoop – Art Workshop with Karina Behr 22-25 June

Join well renowned artist, Karina Behr, with a group of friends who will enjoy being in a beautiful nature reserve while creating a masterpiece and learning to paint some of the beautiful buildings in De Hoop! Karina will teach you perspective, drawing of the ellipse, negative spaces and colour mixing, and at the end of the workshop you will have completed an oil painting!  We will also visit Koppie Alleen and paint a simple seascape.

Day one, we will prepare the canvas, covering it with a neutral colour such as, Raw Umber or Burnt Sienna. We will then do a charcoal drawing of the subject, focusing on the shadows, the shapes and the composition. Onto the now dry and prepared canvas, we will sketch with a drawing brush and paint, the outlines of our composition.Then paint in the dark areas and shadows using thin paint and white.

In the fourth session we will put in some true colour and mid tones and paint
background and foreground. Also perhaps make some adjustments to the drawing. Lastly we may go over the background and sky again, put in the impastos (thicker paint) and all the lovely lights! Karina will teach you perspective, drawing of the ellipse, negative spaces and colour mixing, and at the end of the workshop you will have completed an oil painting! 

We will also enjoy the beauty of the sand dunes and magical coastline at Koppie Alleen with a picnic lunch!
